Chimney Sweeps
After constructing and building thousands of chimneys in Los Angeles County the demand from our customers to sweep the chimneys we had worked on grew too great to ignore. We trained a masonry crew and invested in the proper equipment and began to sweep chimneys. The demand grew and soon friends were telling friends about our professional service and technical expertise.

Driveways
A driveway built correctly will service your home for a lifetime. At Boston Brick & Stone we start by removing the old driveway. Then we grade the exact area down to 8 inches below the finished top of the new driveway. We compact 4 inches of filler and then float wired squares of rebar 2 inches above the fill. Once all of this is completed along with any framing, 4 inches of cement is poured.
By constructing the driveway in this manner, we can prevent many of the problems driveways in Southern California because of earth movement caused by seismic activity. The procedure for a brick or paving stone driveway is very similar.
Retaining Walls
A retaining wall has many uses and many looks: from the very plain utility wall to a beautifully enhanced stone wall for a lovely home, to major privacy to holding back a slope. There are certain construction aspects that are particular only to retaining walls that can and do change from city to city.
Most retaining walls over three feet in height require a permit from the city. In certain cases various reports may be required before an engineer can submit a set of drawings for approval and permit issuance. Frequently there are unexpected costs because of these additional reports. Also each city charges fees for permits.
Walkways and Paths
Straight right angled cement that passes in front of your home is a sidewalk, not a path. A path has a bend or a curve. It may include bricks or stones; it could be made of gravel or paving stones. The path reflects and compliments the home and the personal taste of its owners. It can have a destination or simply meander about the property.
To protect the beauty of these special paths, the initial construction is very important. At Boston Brick & Stone, we grade down far enough to allow at least 4 inches of concrete encasing a rebar grid before the decorative brick or stone is added. This process reduces the risk of the path separating, popping up or shifting.
Concrete
Concrete is arguably the most amazing building material ever devised by Man. A form of concrete enabled the Roman Empire to expand and without it our world would be years behind the technology we currently enjoy. Despite remaining relatively unchanged throughout the years, concrete has recently experienced some dramatic advances. The things Boston Brick & Stone can now do with concrete will make the average driveway a spectacular home enhancement.
Acid staining, concrete stamping or any of the many decorative concrete finishing technologies are just a phone call away. Call Boston Brick & Stone now for your free concrete evaluation and estimate.
